Larry Is Alive 16 April 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for tuesday, the 16th day of April, 2024. It is the UEFA Champions League night good people and what a night it turned out to be! Two games were played tonight.

The first game was between Barcelona vs PSG. Barca had beaten PSG (3-2) in France in the first leg and a certain Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Paris St-Germain defeated Barcelona to overturn the first-leg deficit and advance to the Champions League semi-finals. The game ended Barcelona (1-4) PSG and (4-6) on agregate. With this result, PSG reached the last four of the UCL for the first time since 2021.

In the second match of the night, Borussia Dortmund defeated Atletico Madrid (4-2) and (5–4) on aggregate, pulling off a spectacular comeback in the second half to advance to their first Champions League semi-final in 11 years.

With that result, they'll square up against fellow tonight winners PSG in the first semi-final of this year's competition. Conversely, two La Liga sides who had "comfortable" leads in the first leg were eliminated. What a night!!!

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the world of aviation. He finds out that on this day in 1912, Harriet Quimby, an American aviator, became the first woman to fly across the English Channel. She flew her French Blériot monoplane from Dover, England, to Hardelot, France, amid heavy overcast.

From the world of aviation, Larry goes to South Korea. He finds out that on this day in 2014, the South Korean ferry Sewol, travelling from Inch'ŏn to Cheju, collapsed and drowned, killing 304 people, most of them were high school students.

From South Korea, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 2007, 33 people, including the shooter, were killed in one of the bloodiest mass shootings in American history on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia.

From the USA, Larry goes to the world of basketball. He finds out that on this day in 2003, Michael Jordan, widely recognised as the greatest basketball player of all time, played his final NBA game at the age of 40.

From the world of basketball, Larry goes to Switzerland. He finds out that on this day in 1943, Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann discovered the hallucinogenic characteristics of LSD, which he initially synthesised in 1938.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Russia. He finds out that on this day in 1917, Vladimir Lenin ended his 17-year exile by returning to Russia and establishing a provisional government.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
