Larry Is Alive #153 October 01, 2023: Special Edition - HPUD And I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone. Happy sunday and welcome to the new month of October. Gentlemen, this is thr last quarter of the year. Larry remains grateful to the almighty God for seeing him through the year till now. He prays for God's guidance and protection throughout the remainder of the year.

It is also a special day down here in Nigeria as the countey marks her 63rd independence anniversary. The government says the celebration will be low-key but the truth is that nobody cares as the present economic reality will not permit any elaborate celebration. Larry further turns his attention to have a look at other #historical facts for today.

Larry begins his look at today in history from China. He finds out that on this day in 1949, Mao Zedong, the charismatic leader of the communist People's Liberation Army, proclaimed the establishment of the People's Republic of China in Beijing.

From China, Larry moves over to the United States of America. He finds out that on this day in 2017, Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire on a music festival from his hotel room in Las Vegas, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds more before taking his own life; it surpassed the Orlando incident (2016) as the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

From the USA, Larry goes to Palau. He finds out that on this day in 1994, The Republic of Palau (also spelled Belau or Pelew), a country in the western Pacific Ocean, officially became a sovereign state. Happy independence to them.

From Palau, Larry moves over to the world of boxing. He finds out that on this day in 1975, Muhammad Ali defeated Joe Frazier in what many consider to be the greatest prizefight of all time (the "Thrilla in Manila") after the Joe Frazier's corner requested a halt to the match after 14 devastating rounds.

From the world of boxing, Larry moves over to Liberia. He finds out that on this day in 1966, George Oppong Weah, a one time African, European, and World Player of the Year in 1995, Liberian football (soccer) player and politician and incumbent President of Liberia was born in Monrovia, Liberia.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from Nigeria. He finds out that on this day in 1960, Nigeria gained her independence from Britain but remained a member of the Commonwealth.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.

Today is thr first day of thr month and as it has become customary for me, i joined other hivians to power up.
