Larry Is Alive 15 April 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for monday, the 15th day of April, 2024. Only one match was played today in the EPL Monday night football. Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer scored four goals, including a hat-trick in the first 29 minutes, as his side dismantled Everton at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. The game ended (6-0).

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from France. He finds out that on this day in 2019, the iconic Notre-Dame de Paris caught fire during a renovation campaign, destroying the majority of the cathedral's roof, the 19th-century spire, and some of the rib vaulting.

From the USA, Larry goes to the United Nations. He finds out that on this day in 2003, US President George W. Bush stated that Saddam Hussein's government in Iraq had fallen as a result of the Iraq War and asked the United Nations to lift sanctions against Iraq the next day.

From the United Nations, Larry goes to England. He finds out that on this day in 1989, tragedy happened at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England, when a crush of football (soccer) fans killed 96 people and injured hundreds more; police errors were eventually blamed for the incident.

From England, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1955, Ray Kroc, an American fast-food pioneer, established the first McDonald's franchise in Des Plaines, Illinois, starting what would later become the world's largest fast-food chain.

From the USA, Larry goes back to France. He finds out that on this day in 1980, French novelist and playwright Jean-Paul Sartre, a key proponent of existentialism, died at the age of 74.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from North Korea. He finds out that on this day in 1912, Kim Il-Sung, the North Korea's communist leader from 1948 until his death in 1994 was born in Man’gyŏndae, near P’yŏngyang, Korea [now in North Korea]. He was the country's Premier from 1948 to 1972, chairman of the dominant Korean Workers' Party from 1949, and President and Head of State since 1972.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
