Hi,

you might know, that I'm a big fan of rock music, especially the one from the late 60s to the late 90s. For me, one of the best years in music was 1969. One of the artist that have marked that age, was Jim Morrison or James Douglas Morrison after his given name, who was the lead singer of The Doors.

As we travel at least 2 times a year to Paris, either for work or to visit our relatives there, we try to explore every corner of this great and amazing city. One thing that we liked, was the Père Lachaise Cemetery, where a lot of people, that have shaped human history in the past hundred years, are buried. Yes, they have their final resting place in here. From Honoré de Balzac, Edith Piaf to
Jim Morrison, who died in 1971 in Paris, sadly to an overdose.

We visited it, and we noticed that it has an epitaph written in Greek. KATA TON DAIMONA EAUTOU, which might have been written by my friend, @trumpman, as a true blood Homeric descendant not Homer, the USA guy from the Simpsons.

Most would translate it as stay true to yourself, but it is more complicated. Some say it is written, to stay true to your demons or spirit or inner spirit. It was chosen by his father, who at the time of his death was estranged. His father, was an Admiral in the Navy and an avid learner. When he left the military, he has started to learn Greek. Everything about Greek, modern and ancient. The phrase was coming from ancient Greek, as a Daimon was a lower God in the Greek ancient religion. Sometimes they have been equalled to spirits.

Why I like it? Well, Jim Morrison was always true to his way of life, and did not convey to what the society imposed him to do. He was of high intelligence, with an IQ close to 150. This is over 0.1% of the world population. Most of us, would probably not understand him. He was interested in existentialism, and the works of Nietzsche.

We could say, that he stayed true to his self and his inner demons, till his early death.

How about you? Which one do you like?
