A story about bananas

Hi,

from time to time, I'm asked by strangers, why do I have the drive to work, and also take some tougher tasks, that most will not do, even if the bonus pay is high.

I tell them, bananas. They don't understand, and then I explain them, as most that ask this, are from the Western world, where there was no communism. You see, communism is a real screwed thing, which makes almost everyone poor. It never worked, and it will never work, as it against the laws of nature. In theory might sound nice, even if the theory is also bad, as it is very shallow. But this is another story, and I might tell you, if you want.

So, when I was 5, there was almost no food to buy. Everyone got food stamps, and if one got lucky, could use these food stamps, was running faster as there was not enough. There was money, but you could not use to buy it, as people who got food on their stamps, would not sell it for money, as they could not buy anything else.

Somehow, I got lucky and was born in a great family, with loving parents, that tried to give us everything there was possible. So, on the Christmas when I was 5 and my sis 3, my father managed to trade on the black market, some smuggled bananas, that usually got only on the table of the leaders of the communist party. There were 4 bananas as Christmas gift. We split them for 7 persons. At that time, I connected bananas with Christmas. My peers, from the Western, capitalistic world, had another image of bananas. It was something that was brought by their parents and they could eat it.

After communism was overturned, life became normal, with normal abundance, opportunities and the smarter and harder one would work, the more that person could have a better life. I've sworn myself that if a country is turning bad, into some socialism dystopia, will move out, don't need to waste precious time, which can be used for the family.

And yes, I was sticking to it, as now, I'm the parent that buys bananas for the kid, as my Western peers.

Values remained, as I'm a family oriented person, with the same values we had for generations in the family, but the surrounding changed, and I think and feel that for good.

How about you? What changed since childhood?
