#ViernesDeEscritorio - Vuelvo a Arch Linux con KDE Plasma y a los problemas con Wayland

Tenia dos meses o poco más hablando de Fedora 39 con Gnome y lo cómodo que me sentía, la verdad es que funciona genial, no hay quejas, la estabilidad y compatibilidad con de Gnome con Wayland es casi perfecta. El único inconveniente que le encuentro es la personalización y lo "perfectamente" pulida que lo entrega la gente de Red Hat. Irónicamente, por esa razón he vuelto a Arch Linux, necesito crear mi entorno desde cero para sentirme realmente cómodo.

Pero claro, si tener todo "perfectamente" funcionando por defecto es un "problema", luego nos encontramos con con los verdaderos rompederos de cabeza, nada que no se pueda solucionar en Linux, y para ello tenemos ese espíritu de curiosidad e investigación que nos caracteriza a los linuxeros.

En estas primeras de cambio, y mis inicio en la puesta a punto de Arch en mi máquina, me he encontrado con el primer error. No me cargaba el módulo de la gestión de energía, por lo tanto me era imposible configurar los parámetros y tampoco la máquina entraba en estado de reposo o hibernación; esta es una función fundamental en el consumo de energía y buen uso de la máquina. También estaba teniendo problemas con el cursor en Firefox, se me desaparecía y le estaba echando toda la culpa.

Hice una consulta rápida del problema en X, pero la posible solución que me dieron no funcionó, no era problema con el paquetepowerdevil. El problema tanto del Gestor de energía como del cursor en Firefox me lo esta ocasionando Wayland, si, por muy triste que parezca, el problema es Wayland, por lo que al iniciar la sesión con X11 todo a funcionado perfectamente. Este problema con Wayland y KDE puede ser por mi máquina o no, ya que con Debian y KDE también había tenido algunos problemas. En X he visto a muchos usuarios quejarse de las sesiones de KDE con Wayland, así que no soy el único. Por suerte, puedo seguir usando X11 hasta la tan esperada actualización de KDE Plasma a su versión 6, donde han trabajado para tener mayor compatibilidad con el moderno y tan polémico servidor de pantallas.

Todavía tengo mucho por configurar e instalar, la instalación de Arch con el escritorio KDE Plasma inicia con poco más de 600 paquetes, a diferencia de Fedora 39 que inicia con casi 2000 paquetes instalados. Tiene sus ventajas, nos ahorramos tiempo, pero también al tener más paquetes innecesarios es posible que encontremos mayores conflictos a futuro. Quiero incluir en esta instalación el paquete "Oh My Bash" para embellecer y vitaminar mi shell, esto aún lo ando investigando y haciendo una lista de las posibles configuraciones que haré. También estoy pensando en eliminar Discover para instalar Octopi, para cuando necesite hacer una revisión rápida de los paquetes de los repositorios oficiales de Arch y los también los AUR.

Hay una aplicación que siempre hecho de menos cuando estoy con Gnome, esta aplicación es Spectacle, es algo que ocupo a diario y muchas veces, quizás puede ser sólo un capturador de pantalla más para muchos, pero para mi es indispensable, cómodo y con las funcionalidades que necesito.

In these first changes, and my start in setting up Arch on my machine, I have encountered the first error. The power management module did not load, therefore it was impossible for me to configure the parameters and the machine did not enter a standby or hibernation state; This is a fundamental function in energy consumption and good use of the machine. I was also having problems with the cursor in Firefox, it kept disappearing and I was blaming it entirely.

I did a quick query of the problem in X, but the possible solution they gave me didn't work, it wasn't a problem with the powerdevil package. The problem with both the Power Manager and the cursor in Firefox is being caused by Wayland, yes, as sad as it may seem, the problem is Wayland, so when I started the session with X11 everything worked perfectly. This problem with Wayland and KDE may or may not be due to my machine, since with Debian and KDE I had also had some problems. On X I've seen many users complain about KDE sessions with Wayland, so I'm not the only one. Luckily, I can continue using X11 until the long-awaited KDE Plasma update to version 6, where they have worked to have greater compatibility with the modern and highly controversial screen server.

I still have a lot to configure and install, the installation of Arch with the KDE Plasma desktop starts with just over 600 packages, unlike Fedora 39 which starts with almost 2000 packages installed. It has its advantages, we save time, but also by having more unnecessary packages we may encounter greater conflicts in the future. I want to include in this installation the "Oh My Bash" package to beautify and revitalize my shell, I am still researching this and making a list of the possible configurations I will make. I'm also thinking about removing Discover to install Octopi, for when I need to do a quick review of packages from the official Arch repositories and AURs as well.

There is an application that I always miss when I am with Gnome, this application is Spectacle, it is something that I use daily and many times, perhaps it can be just another screenshot for many, but for me it is essential, comfortable and with the functionalities that I need.
