My Bitcoin Beginnings: Faucets & My Pathetic Attempts At Getting Referrals

I have a Love/Hate relationship with Crypto Faucets. They're easy to use, require no skill and it's satisfying to see numbers go up. However, the earnings are so minuscule that there are infinite better ways to use my time like Writing articles or playing Video Games.

In this article, I'll talk about my experiences using Faucets over the years, how bad I am at getting referrals for them, and why I barely use them anymore.

Crypto Faucets are websites that give you tiny drops of Crypto Coins for using them. They show you advertisements and ask you to prove you're human. (By asking you to enter CAPTCHA.) They receive money by showing you the ads, and they reward you with a percentage of that. Most faucets have a cooldown timer to let you know when you can use them again.

Back when I first started Bitcoin, Faucet sites were big, and transaction fees weren't very high, so it was easier to earn enough to withdraw to my wallet in a week or a month. Nowadays most faucets allow for various withdrawal methods including a Faucet-friendly wallet FaucetPay.

The main appeal of the Faucets is how little skill they require. Just a few clicks once in a while and you earn your Bitcoin or other Cryptocurrency. Normally, the amount earned by Faucets is worthless, but Bitcoin and other currencies gain value over time, so you can 'technically' call it an investment. (I'm being generous here.)

Some Faucet websites have incentives to keep you clicking. Some give you a random amount of Bitcoin with a chance of earning big if you use them frequently. Some allow you to play games, or read books on-site while the cooldown timer is running. Some have PTC ads and Offer Walls which give bigger earnings than Faucets, CoinPayU has most of these options.

While you can't earn anything substantial from Faucets by using it yourself, there's a lot to earn if you're able to refer many people who actively use these websites. That's something I tried to do when I used to use Faucet sites. I don't think I did a good job with it.

Pathetic Attempt #1 Randomly Linking on Reddit! Most Reddit communities have rules regarding referral links. Some allow them. I would put my referral links whenever it seems appropriate. Looking back on it, I must've been annoying, and no one joined me anyway.

Pathetic Attempt #2 Randomly sharing on Twitter! I thought that using multiple hashtags will increase my discoverability, but turns out only a few people use general hashtags, and the target audience for faucets would never click on my tweets.

Pathetic Attempt #3 Message Boards! Some message boards and WordPress sites allow you to put links beside your username or in the comments. I occasionally put my referral link there. I later discovered that no one clicks those as they look like spam.

So, I barely got any referrals to the faucets I joined. I don't remember if I even got one.

So, that was my experience with Cryptocurrency Faucets, I hope you enjoyed reading this article and/or learned something from it. Thanks for reading, and see you in another article.
