⏳ I Went to Therapist and...

(Edited)

I've been under a lot of stress lately. Probably caused by overthinking a lof things too much.

Just the other day, I've seen discussions about depression after watching a certain anime episode. The discussions I saw convinced me to finally go see a therapist. (Imagine Youtube Comments actually inspiring something useful.)

This isn't the first time I go see a therapist. I used to see one between 2015-2019 and I've been better since, even if I regressed a bit by now...

I told the therapist about my feelings recently. I almost summarized all of my life to him. (It took a long time.) I unloaded everything that was bottled up in my heart. I cried so much during it. I usually don't cry in front of strangers.

The therapist listened and told me, "I understand," "You'll be okay," and "Don't be afraid." He also told me my problems are fixable, and gave me some medicines.

He didn't give me any advice. At least in terms of "do this" and "do that." Instead, he gave me some medications. He told me how to take them for a month, then I'll have to see him again.

I'm familiar with the first medicine I was given. I don't know the exact effect, but it made me sleep 5+ more than usual whenever I took it before. Another one of the medicines I was given this time, I was told is for Depression.

If you asked me if I had depression before going to the therapist, I wouldn't be sure. Depression used to tire me too quickly, but I was functional enough these days. It turns out I was really dealing with it.

What do you think?

Today is my second-day taking medicine. my whole body feels weak and sleepy. This happened to me before, so I'm not worried, but I don't have the energy to do most things. It's probably my body regulating itself.

My mental state is much more stable, I don't have as much of negative thoughts and I'm less in autopilot mode right now. So I guess it's a good thing.

I hope you look forward to what I post next, especially after I fully recover. For now, you can check my "Where to Start?" Article and tell me about your thoughts. If you want to help support me financially, buy any of these NFTs.

Would you disclose the name of the medicine he gave you that helps you sleep better? 🥺

I can, but I'm not sure if it's okay to do it. I fear that someone reads it and takes it without a prescription... Sleeping more is a side effect, not the main purpose of the medicine.

Do you still want its name?

Sleeping is the reason I asked 🥺

Do you still want its name?

Yes, please, thank you.

You can delete it once I pick it up to be safe 🙏🏿

It's called [REMOVED for Health Safety]

But be really careful, those affect the chemicals in the brain, if a healthy person took them it might damage them instead.

It's great that you're seeking help. I've been under therapy since 2015 and it has improved my life considerably.

The side effects of the medication will eventually wear off, so don't worry much about it. Take care of yourself and you'll definitely be fine.

I also recommend exercising, that really does helped the mind.

Thanks for the encouraging words, and it's nice to know the side effects will wear off.

I'm not a sport's person but I'll keep it in mind.

In my childhood, I was diagnosed with dysthymia, which is a chronic, long lasting form of depression. I do not remember taking medications, neither how I went out of this state, but that is certain that I found love in life. Find someone and/or something you love. That will certainly help.

The annoying thing about those medications, the SSRI’s is they have such a small range of therapeutic working range that it’s difficult to say if it’s going to work or not, or if it’s just going to make you feel groggy instead.

What I don’t like about these professionals is they dont bother to help the root of the problem, they just want to give you a medication that masks the issue and go onto the next person. I don’t think this person is going to help you, and neither are those poisonous chemicals.

I hope to find a therapist that helps me find the root of the problems, I can say 5 days in, that the medications have worked, at least a little bit for me. It made me think less negatively, but yeah, finding the root of the problem and helping me with my social anxiety would be preferable to taking medicines.

By the way, what you'd think will be a better help to take?

There are so many things these days, and I think the pharmaceutical stuff is far more poisonous and dangerous than people realize. The clinical benefit range of most of the SSRI’s, which are typically what they prescribe like Prozac, and other medications is 5-10% meaning that out of 100 people, 5-10 of them are going to have a positive benefit from taking it, the other 90-95 will not have any measurable effect from it but will continue to buy and take it. That’s pretty annoying and I know it’s not pleasant to hear when you’re taking it or prescribing it.

There are lots of things to do to combat anxiety and depression, and so many of them are important to just modify our day. Eat a little healthier, by incorporating vegetables, healthy fats like butter or ghee, instead of getting fried food, drinking soda, alcohol doesn’t help. Small changes that we make over time are important. For example if you like to drink Coca-Cola, get off that. Instead of drinking 3 coke’s a day, cut down to 2.5 for a week and dump the remainder down the drain. Work your way up to eliminating it entirely.

Exercise and being outside!! That cannot go understated! Walking, even just for 30 minutes a day has so many improvements for our minds and bodies. Fresh air is a wonderful thing to experience! If you have trees or fields, even better. Psychologically, we feel a lot calmer when we are near trees and it’s likely tied to being able to evolutionarily hide from predators. Being able to walk next to trees is a pretty considerable improvement.

Get out and do something you commit to! I think you said social anxiety. Find a social situation that you can find appealing. If you like comic books, go to a comic book store for 30 minutes a day to start. Eventually work towards talking to the workers there. Eventually offer to volunteer to help out what they need some help with, no money obligation. This will get you into a familiar territory and it will get you social interactions. We are social beings!

If you want to take something as a “medicine” you can look at getting some supplements like ashwaganda, tulsi and others. They help calm our nerves and do wonders for stress and anxiety.

There are so many things we can do besides go to the doctors who’s only job is to push medication and sell more pills. They have little to no experience in doing anything besides that. It is great to have someone to talk to but I don’t trust them when it comes to prescriptions.

Thanks for you valuable input... I'm trying to eat healthier for a while now, and I already do more than I used to be, but there's always room for improvement. I'll put going out for a walk in my list of things to do. إن شاء الله

Thanks for the advice regarding social anxiety too, but even with things I find appealing, it's hard to go out without a reason. This for example sounds terrifying, especially if I got asked what I'm doing there for that long:

"I think you said social anxiety. Find a social situation that you can find appealing. If you like comic books, go to a comic book store for 30 minutes a day to start."

Thanks again for everything you said. !PIZZA !LUV

P.S: I think you should turn this comment into a full post so more people get benefit from it.
