Let's Play "Suika Game Demake" (PICO-8)

Suika Game, also known as a Watermelon game is a fun arcade puzzle game. It first released on Nintendo Switch, but because it's easy to make, it has been copied for other platforms by other developers. In this video, I'm playing through the PICO-8 version of Suika.

The game involves dropping fruits into a container without letting the fruits overflow outside it. You get points by combining two of the same fruit upon contact, forming into the next fruit in the game's fruit cycle. It's a simple, yet addictive concept.

The cycle of the fruits is as follows: Cherry -> Straberry -> Grapes -> Dekopon (Orange?) -> Persimon -> Apple -> Pear -> Peach -> Pinapple -> Melon -> Watermelon.

This version of Suika Game has a wiki function, by pressing the "X" button, you'll find information about each fruits. I like how they called the Watermelon "The King of Fruits." I guess it's one of the biggest fruits you can find.

The fruits in this version of the game move a lot even after being dropped. That helped me sometimes when two of the fruits combined with each other by themselves, but it also ruined some of my plans at other times.

Suika Game is a great mindless game that you could play while doing other things. I'll probably play it, (a version of it,) again!

What do you think?

PICO-8 is a Fantasy Console. It's a multi platform application that tries to emulate the limitations of the 16-bit era generation of video games. Despite the limitations, many great games have been developed for PICO-8, and I discover them from time to time.

I recorded this Suika Game Demake's playthrough on a Linux (PopOS) laptop.
