My luffa Sponge Gourd Cultivation!

Growing veggies in this season in Cambodia sure has been quite the learning experience as I am not an expert. Right now, the practical make me realized how important it is to learn the maintenance and prevention process. It's been much more detailed and tips than I expected, especially when it comes to checking the health of the soil in this dry conditions. I've been quite worried about how well my veggies will grow. Time is also my struggle, but luckily, my land isn't too big that requires me to take much time so easily! I have a fast decision to create a small garden.

The blooming flowers are simply stunning. We've been diligently tending to our luffa patch, and honestly, there's nothing quite as exciting than watching our blooms pop up from one areas to another areas and still continue.

The luffas always thrive by this way, I went to the extent of constructing a wooden roof for them using a bamboo.

This way, it looks like it have a protected area to call home. But before I went out and got the seeds, I really took some time to think about when would be the best day for buying them since I don’t want to make a mistake by mouse destroying my seeds. I had to consider how much time I could dedicate to preparing the soil and getting everything ready. After all, we can't rely on the rain to conveniently come pouring down just when we're about to dig those holes.

And you know what? There was another factor that made me hesitate before making the purchase. I have this constant worry that pesky mice will destroy all my precious seeds. So, I didn't want to rush into buying them without having a proper plan in place. I decided to take three days and dedicate them to thoroughly researching the weather and gathering some valuable insights from the internet.

To get started, my husband and I began by digging the holes. We spent a whole two days digging and even continued the work into the night whenever we could find the possible time. Now, we've managed to dig about 70% of the required holes and create straight rows for our planting. You know? At first we had planned to have five rows to grow a variety of vegetables and ensure a bountiful harvest.

But things didn’t went as plan, we soon realized that each plant needs its own space. The professor who advised us on plant maintenance explained that we can't grow them too close together. In fact, we need to maintain a distance of 6-8 meters between each type of plant or vegetable. This was quite reminders to us, as we had assumed we could grow them all in a compact space.

So, we had to change our first plan and adjust the spacing accordingly. This meant creating larger gaps between each row and ensuring that each plant had sufficient room to grow. It was a bit disappointing because it meant sacrificing some of the variety we had buy and hoped for, but we knew it was necessary to give our veggies the best chance to thrive.

Then we continue with our gardening journey, we're learning so much about the importance of soil quality, the amount of water needed and pest prevention. So impressive for me to learn how all these factors play a big role in the growth and development of our plants. We've also started implementing composting techniques to improve the fertility of our soil and provide the healthy conditions for our veggies too, but some of the requirements tool isn’t buying yet. Or should I mention the spray bottle? Sure I haven’t buy it yet, my plants is so little I can’t wait to purchase them more faster! Right now I only used containers and spread the water with my hand.
