How Much Should It Cost To Unlock Soulbound Reward Cards?

Capture.JPG

We are about 4.5 months into the soul bound reward card experiment and we're starting to see some of the top players maxing out individual cards. There is still quite a ways to go, but with this progress and Land 1.5 around the corner this begs the question - when should the cards become unlockable and more importantly, how much should the unlock fee cost?

I have a simple answer and I hope that it will be implemented at the very minimum at least:

The DEC burn value of the card + 1 voucher.

From the DEC perspective, the last thing we want to see is cards contribute to DEC inflation since there is no print limit on these reward cards. By at least having players pay the burn value to unlock the card, we are not adding in any more new DEC to the economy if the card is ever burned for DEC in the future. Whether it is one BCX or has been combined into multiple, it will always be easy to find the burn value and pay that as the unlock cost.

From a Voucher perspective, this one is a no-brainer way to add a ton of utility to Vouchers. This will be done at the card level, so if it is 1 BCX or 400 BCX it will still cost 1 voucher. In this way, we will incentivize leveled up cards hitting the market and not flooding it with single BCX commons that race to the bottom in terms of price. Also, by placing a voucher requirement this could put in a bit of an artificial floor for all cards. Right now Vouchers are trading for between 4-5 cents so it's not outrageous, but my hope would be that we could get to a point where we never see single penny cards again in the future.

If the unlock costs ends up being more than this, I would be happy but this is the bare minimum that we should aim for in my opinion. I've heard suggestions of making it more expensive early on and then reducing the price at later time or even making it free, but I do think there should be a minimum in order to avoid any DEC inflation.

What do you think? How much should it cost to unlock a soul bound reward card?

I don't agree with this atl all. The unlock cost needs to stay static, never going up or down so speculators can get a good idea of possible future worth. People need to stop suggesting ways to devalue cards all the time. It does NOT help the game.

I agree, I'd prefer something static as well. I think the argument from their side was to make it somewhat of a premium early on but I just think so many people have ended up paying MORE for being early adopters rather than less and that seems like a terrible way to reward your hardcore supporters.

This idea makes sense to me. It may not be a massive incentive, but it still slightly tilts the scale toward leveling up cards.

I actually personally like Tales suggestion that these cards should have to have some sort of burn to earn mechanism as well.

Perhaps this idea could be combined this way:
Burn Dec in order to unlock the ability for the card to earn

Burn voucher to unlock the soulbind.

Theoretically they could even be separate maybe (Ie a card could be locked from earning but unlocked to sell) not sure if that part is important.

But I do think we had a flood of these cards come on and make it so that botted accounts could get by with less stake in the game and that seems like something that should be remedied.

Burn to earn sounds interesting, I need to look into this!

This idea seems pretty appealing to me. Not only we create a base floor for these cards with the DEC that you would get for burning them but at the same time we are actually taking DEC away from circulation and kind of staking them on the card to make them transferrable.

Sounds like a reasonable metric to me. Curious to hear if the company has a plan in mind already.
