They Are Just Care Givers
“To be a good father and mother requires that the parents defer many of their own needs and desires in favour of the needs of their children. As a consequence of this sacrifice, conscientious parents develop a nobility of character and learn to put into practice the selfless truths taught by the Saviour Himself, by James E. Faust.
It all began when Shola and Peju, who were enjoying life with their parents, started experiencing challenges. The home that used to be heaven on Earth, turned sour. Their father, Mr Ajewole and mother, Mrs Ajewole went to court for a divorce. They tried settling their differences but they were at their wit’s end .”They had no choice but to go their separate ways.
Shola and Peju were left with no option but to go with their mum, because she was given custody of the children.
Shola and Peju helped their mum as they grew. The unstable economy was a ticking time bomb, and it soon caused a recession which affected their mum's business. This affected them so much that Peju and Shola couldn't continue with their education. Their mum tried all she could but to no avail. The children called on their dad, Mr Ajewole severally for help, because he was stinkingly rich but he refused to help them." You loved your mum, more than me, and it will be difficult for you to be able to make it", Mr Ajewole said in anger.
The children were in deep water and started doing menial jobs to fend for themselves. Shola joined a security outfit in Kwara state in search of a greener pasture, "after what his father, Mr. Ajewole said, Shola "felt down in the dump".He was later posted to the university to monitor the mtn network mask.
At his duty post at midnight. Shola was being encouraged by the second security guard to join them in engaging in shady dealings, "This is not the plan of God for my life", Shola said.
He later resigned after 20 days with the security outfit because of the pressure to be involved in shady dealings.
Shola was later given admission to study geology and mineral science at the university, while Peju got pregnant with Peter, a petty trader in Lagos. Peju and Peter struggled to make it. Shola continued to struggle, he helped people to weed their surroundings and worked in a poultry farm, to help take care of himself and his mum. He also used part of the money to pay for his acceptance fee at the university, he also changed his course from geology to Physical and health education because of the cost involved in studying geology and the field trip.
Shola studied hard in the university until one fateful day when he went to the market to buy foodstuff, he met Mrs Akintunde whom he narrated his ordeal in the grocery store, Mrs Akintunde had a daughter who was uncivil. Shola helped Mrs Akintunde talk with her daughter about his experiences and she changed her behaviours.
Mrs Akintunde promised to help Shola with his education, Shola left the grocery store with joy. He started paying his fees with ease. His mother also visited Mrs Akintunde to thank her for all she did for her son.
After four years in school, shola graduated from school, as one of the best graduating students from his department. Their mother also died just before he graduated from school.
He gained employment four years later as a school teacher. His sister Peju with her husband also relocated abroad.
A few years later, Shola became financially independent with the help of his sister, Peju. His sister had also graduated from Mexico State University. She read business administration and had been hired by a big firm in the United States of America. Their father Mr Ajewole, who used to be stickingly rich became as sick as a dog. He could not work again. He had his chips in business.
You should have helped us out Daddy, when we needed you most, instead you chose to punish us for the things that transpired between you and Mum, shola said in anger.
Peju was also called home from abroad because their dad, Mr Ajewole was on his last legs, He asked for forgiveness from his children but Peju found it difficult to forgive her dad. Dad if you had been there for me, I wouldn't have had it this rough in life, Peju said as she could not hold back the tears dripping from her eyes.
Mr Ajewole who was also sobbing convulsively, had a heart attack and joined the choir invisible. My opinion to parents is by Edwin Hubbell Chapin
“No language can express the power, beauty, heroism, and majesty of a mother's love. It shrinks not where man cowers, and grows stronger where man faints, and over wastes of worldly fortunes sends the radiance of its quenchless fidelity like a star.”

There is a thing called Karma and many people get to face it in life. The dad didn't make the right decision but in the end, he realized his mistake
A mothers love is all, and unique, a very powerful symbol on earth, a mother can replace everything in this world, but nothing can replace a mother... Nice touch

Very good story, where you make us reflect that any change within the family affects all its members, in this story the father, like many, abandons his children according to him as punishment but I really felt it in the story as revenge and not wanting to assume his responsibility. Thank you for sharing this story with us.
