RE: The Illusion of Privacy in the Digital Era: Are You Safe Online?

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

If people can't be bothered to read the terms and conditions before signing up to anything, it's unlikely that they'll be bothered to know that there are parts of the clause that put them at a disadvantage when it comes to their privacy under the guise of training and research purposes.

But can you read all that legal mumbo jumbo... at this point I think they are so technical you need a lawyer every time you need to agree to their terms...lol

Depends on where you're from, sometimes I just ignore clauses that don't apply to my own country. Some terms and conditions aren't that complicated. I've helped drafted terms and conditions for kicks and giggles with lawyer friends during their time at law school since they are next door neighbors to my building in med school. If I dont understand a clause, I take time to google it or ask a friend but this small reading habit saved me from signing up on a few services I can live without and kept my phone from ringing for solicitation calls a lot of times. Doesn't make my case special, just makes me confident to claim yeah, I read the terms and conditions before signing up, did you?, I'm fun at parties.

What a nerd! 😜

(I never read them, they probably have claims over my future children at this point 🙃)

A lot of people probably said yes to selling their soul for a subscription to a streaming platform without knowing it. None of my business~
