Responding to external motivation

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
― Martin Luther King Jr., A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches

Hi everyone. I hope you all are fine. This week, the topics are very interesting. I would like to continue with the question of motivation. There are people who do not need external factors to motivate themselves, and then there are people who depend on external factors to motivate themselves.

I would like to say that I am a mixture of both. I am a self motivated person. However, at times, a lot of factors motivate and inspire me. I acknowledge the struggle of people and it eventually inspires me. Factors like songs, stories of people, books, music and so on have a very lasting impact on me.

A lot of movies also inspire and motivate me. I recently watched a movie called 12th fail. It is an Indian movie with such a powerful and motivating message. It is about how a really poor person from a deprived social class goes on to become an Indian Police Officer in his last attempt.

Moreover, another movie that has made me cry and has made me strong too is The Pursuit of Happyness. This movie is a masterpiece. The message it conveys has the power to inspire even hopeless people. Will Smith has done amazing job in this movie. I am sure a lot of people must have seen this movie.

Moreover, there are a lot of songs out there with the potential to instill you with motivation. Most of these songs are, for me, Pakistani and Indian songs. Some are English songs as well. It helps me in keeping the hustle alive.

This is one of my go to songs that I listen to when I need some motivation.
I am a person who needs to stay motivated. I am preparing for the toughest exams in my country and I have failed in my first attempt. I have recently given my first attempt in this March. I am confident that this time, I will clear the exam.

These factors that I have mentioned here help me in staying motivated. Forever, my dreams and desires are a powerful force too in this regard to keep me going in my journey.

What is it that motivates you?

In as much as allowing external factors to motivate you is good, I feel it shouldn't be the only thing. Self motivation is a powerful force that needs to be kept alive by continuous self examination and reflection. One needs to ask what is my purpose and where I'm I aiming at?

It's clear that you draw motivation from a combination of internal drive and external sources like movies, music, and stories of resilience. Your determination to overcome challenges and achieve your goals is admirable. Keep harnessing those sources of inspiration and staying focused on your dreams. Good luck with your exam preparations!
