Gift from my sister

I have always believed that life is itself a gift and it should always be treated accordingly. We should be grateful for everything that we have. I am a very thankful person when it comes to receiving gifts. I give priority to efforts more than materialistic stuff.

Recently, my family celebrated my birthday. They always do. My birthday comes on the first of the January. It was a low key function that I celebrated with my family. They did not give me any materialistic gifts. They gave me their time. Most of them are busy in their work during the weekend. I thanked them for such beautiful moments.

One little gift that I would always remember is that of my little sister. She is just eleven years old. She came to me with a little note in her tiny hands and gave it to me. It said, Thank you for being my brother At the back of this note was written another sentence that said my brother is very cute. It just melted my heart. I am not an emotional sort of a person. However, this little gesture made me feel a lot of things.

She said," You are the only one who listens to me. You have always taken care of me Bhau (brother). You have always protected me from everyone. I will always love you. This little note is all I can give you right now. Do hold on to this. It will keep reminding you about me."

She is so adorable. I have always seen and treated her as a part of myself. I just cannot put to words what this little chubby kid means to me. I guess this is what we really feel for our beloved people. I have seen her growing up. I have taught her how to talk and how to walk.

I was totally amazed at how this little kid knows this much and how is she so articulate and clear about it. Moreover, my heart was full of gratitude and happiness. I gave her a warm hug and told her, "I will always be by your side. This is not just a note, it is something very important for me. I would keep it in my wallet so that whenever I open it, I think of you immediately."

We both were smiling during our little but wholesome conversation. I gave her a kiss on her forehead and we went into the hall to sit with our other family members. It was the new year evening and Sunday which made it eventually more beautiful.

We all should spend such moments with our loved ones. These little moments and gestures from our loved ones make our life more meaningful and worth living.
