Circumcision in Pakistani Culture

"When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too."
— Paulo Coelho

Hi everyone. I hope you all are fine. I am here to share my world with you all. I always wonder on how humanity has evolved into such different cultures, sets of beliefs, norms and values. We all are a single specie and yet we have evolved in something different when it comes to culture.

He is the father of the boys
Circumcision is religious thing for Muslims. It is a Sunnah, a guidance provided by the Last Prophet of Islam. It has various health benefits as well which are scientifically proven. Here in Pakistan, it is celebrated. It is celebrated like a very delightful event from where I belong.

Different types of food were prepared for guests in the hall. This is how a happy event is celebrated in Pakistan; through food.

When a boy comes an age where he is near puberty that is when he is circumcised. I hope everyone knows what this means. Recently, the circumcision ceremony of my cousins was held a few days back. I was there in the event helping my uncle. I happened to take pictures and everyone was just so happy.

Among benefits of circumcision, the major ones include hygiene and safety from infections. Maintaining hygiene becomes easy after circumcision. I have even read that it reduces the risk of cancer. It also prevents STD.

The little boys are my cousins. They were given new cultural dresses and they were also given good money to buy toys and candies for themselves by the elders of the house. A gathering ceremony was arranged for friends and relatives in which they came ate delicious food in the hall that we booked.

Later that night, the female family members, especially the mother and aunties of the boys wore new attires and danced on cultural songs. I cannot share the pictures because of the consent. After the night, at day time, the boys were prepared. A professional doctor came and circumcised the boys one by one carefully as this is a very sensitive matter.

Circumcision is healthy, cultural, spiritual and religious practice. I have noticed that during these moments, mothers become very sentimental and emotional naturally in my culture. It brings humility I guess.

I hope that I shared this one prominent ritual from my culture quite clearly. I hope that I did not hurt the sentiments of anyone. Do share your views and thoughts about my blog in the comments section below.
