Acts 20:28 (KJV) Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

The church of God was established by Jesus Christ. It is the family of God. It is the household of God. The church does not belong to any person or organization. It is the institution which God established through our Lord Jesus Christ. The church is an institution for the salvation of men.

Ephesians 3:6 (KJV) That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
Acts 2:47 (KJV) Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

We become members of the church when we accept the doctrines of Jesus Christ and receive baptism. After we receive baptism, we are to live by the doctrines of Jesus Christ. We should not return to our sinful ways. We must obey the doctrines and follow the commandments of God.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (KJV) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

When we come together, we should consider one another to provoke unto love and good works. We should do good unto all men. It is by good works that men will know that we are the disciples of Jesus Christ. We must obey the doctrines of God in totality. We should join the church and not neglect the gathering together of the brethren.

In the church there are those actions which we do out of our own free will. These are voluntary actions. They are not the commandments, they the things we do unto God out of our love for Him.
